EIM in Action

EIM Month 2015

May is EIM Month - Let's get moving!

May is Exercise is Medicine Month and a time to bring awareness to and focus on the issue of physical inactivity. This EIM Month, all college and unversity campuses nationwide are called to bring EIM to their campus! EIM-OC can be activated on any campus, large or small, rural or urban.  Let's get moving!

Physical inactivity, a fast-growing public health concern, contributes to a variety of chronic disease and health complications:

  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • Cancer
  • Heart Disease

Exercise is Medicine on Campus - Get Registered!

The Exercise is Medicine on Campus (EIM-OC) initiative is designed specifically for universities and colleges to increase awareness of physical activity and make it an integral part of their campus' culture.

The EIM-OC Action Guide

The action guide includes information on how to bring EIM to a campus:

  • Background information
  • Mission and vision
  • A letter from Dr. Carena Winters and Dr. Bob Sallis (EIM Leadership)
  • How to form a leadership team
  • Information on getting recognized
  • Examples of campuses that have implemented EIM

"Everyone should start or renew an exercise program now as an investment in life-long health," said Robert E. Sallis, M.D., FACSM, chair of Exercise is Medicine.  "Every person, regardless of age or health, is responsible for his or her own physical activity. There are far more reasons to exercise than excuses not to."
